Why did we create Habit Technologies?

Everyone in the world needs a coach and we wanted to make that possible

Our Mission

Abraham Maslow, the psychologist behind the Hierarchy of Needs, believed that everyone has a basic human need to self-actualize. He said, "what a person can be, a person must be." We believe that in our core. We also believe that people need a little help to get there. So we decided to dedicate our core skills--psychology and computer science--to helping people throughout the world self-actualize.

Our mission is to help people become who they want to be, who they are meant to be.

Our Approach

If you notice, this mission is similar to that of other people in the personal and professional development industry, especially coaches. Our approach is just different.
We build tools and technology that help people self-actualize.
Most of these tools, like our core product Architect, are built with coaches, trainers, and consultants in mind. They are built to help such professionals be more effective, get more clients, and extend their influence. When coaches succeed, we succeed.

Why Habits?

Habits are the missing piece in growth and development. They are the most predictive but least focused on predictor of future behavior. As an industry, we do a great job with mindsets, attitudes, goal setting, accountability, feedback, basically everything within the domain of the conscious self. What is missing is a focus on the automatic non-conscious self--your habits.
Researchers estimate that at 40% of your daily thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are automatic and habitual. They are everywhere! And they are so powerful. Habits often overcome even the strongest of motivations. (For more on the neurology of the battle between the conscious self and the unconscious self, you should download and read Rewiring the Brain For Long-lasting Change. It's free when you subscribe to the blog :). When people struggle with the choices and outcomes in their life, you can often trace the root of their issues back to their repeated habits. And this is true no matter what area they are struggling in--personal health, professional success, relationships, etc, etc. It all comes back to how they consistently and regularly think, feel, and act. It comes back to their habits.
Yet despite their obvious importance, habit interventions are rare. Few coaches focus on them and fewer still are equipped to effectively focus on them.
So we decided to give coaches the tool they needed to add habit interventions into their coaching. Not to replace what they are already doing, but to add to it. No, add is the wrong word. To compound on what they are already doing. Because when you add Architect's habit programs to your existing coaching, your clients will experience exponential results.

Meet Our Founders

Ryan Darby, Ph.D.

He's the science behind the tools. He's been a senior consultant at both large and small consulting companies and helped in the creation of the world's most popular strengths coaching cert program. He's published numerous academic papers, is a former professor, and has had jokes bomb in front of thousands of people (yes, at one time...and, well, yes, every time).

James Jacobson

He's the business-mind of the business. He's been a sales leader for more than a decade, hailed as company rainmaker (pun intended), and has annoyingly managed to keep his hair into his 40s. When he is not shampooing his lovely locks, he is grooming his facial hair in embarrassing ways (looking at you handle-bar mustache phase).

Stephen Darby

He's the nerd inside the computer. He's put his development skills to use building systems and tools for companies like VidAngel, StartStudio, Izeni, and more. He is a three time winner of the "best-looking bald guy in the company" award, a sublime Frisbee golfer, and the only person in America who actually believes Frisbee golf is a sport.
